My Ideal Relationship
What are you looking for in a relationship?
I’m looking for two things:
1. I’ll never get bored with her, she constantly challenges me, and we are learning and growing together. At age 80 we will not have run out of things to talk about.
2. She is my best friend, my confidant, and I am hers.
I’m looking for a full, equal partner, someone who is my match. I’m not looking for arm candy or for someone who will be subservient.
Description of a Good Relationship
I’m interested in a great relationship, not a good relationship. A great relationship is based on a soul mate connection:
- an intellectual connection
- an emotional connection
- a spiritual/values/moral connection
- a physical connection.
If you’re got all four with a member of the other sex, you’ve got something very special and you should work like hell to make it work.
Those who are so insistent on having identical interests with a partner probably have not experienced a soul mate connection, a relationship where they totally connected with someone. They don’t know what they are missing — and in many cases are emotionally unable to have such a relationship — so they focus on finding a lower level relationship (i.e., where similarity of interests is the strong suit, rather than a soul mate connection). It’s like the creatures in “Flatland” (a two dimensional world) who cannot imagine the third dimension. If you’ve ever experienced such a connection, you would focus on finding that level of connection, rather than “I roller blade and I want a guy who also roller blades.”
How can you judge an intellectual connection?
I almost have this one down to a formula. I will almost always have an intellectual connection with a woman who:
- is exceptionally bright
- has a wide range of intellectual interests
- has an insatiable intellectual curiosity
- is good at asking questions and listening
- who is highly articulate and verbal
- is quick witted — her neurons simply snap faster than most people’s
- is high energy
- has an excellent sense of humor
- is totally present and 100 percent there.
